A tartan is a fabric woven in crossing bands of color which represent traditions of and affiliation with specific groups. While the origins of the fabric are strongly rooted early Scottish history, the fabric itself is rapidly becoming a globally recognized symbol of tradition and affiliation. The Bradley University Tartan was selected from six student designs created during a tartan design competition. The winning design was submitted by Carolyn Stewart, a Hospitality Leadership major in the department of Family and Consumer Sciences. The Bradley University Tartan will be registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans in Edinburgh, Scotland. A woven sample of the Bradley University Tartan will be maintained in the National Archives of Scotland.
