Network Upgrade Summer 2017

Michel Student Center, Markin Family Student Recreation Center , & The Garrett Cultural Center

wifi-iconThe University has undertaken a significant project to upgrade the network infrastructure and wireless technology across campus. We are increasing our network backbone from 1Gbps to 10Gbps, and moving to a 5GHz wireless standard with increased coverage and capacity. Phase I of the plan was completed during the summer of 2016, and included replacing a portion of the core network infrastructure and upgrading the Library network, more than doubling the number of wireless access points (APs) in the building. Phase II was completed over the fall of 2016 and included upgrading the Access Points in Wycoff, Heitz, Geisert, Williams, University, Harper, SAC and St. James. Phase III was completed over the Summer of 2017 and included upgrading the Access Points in Bradley Hall, Westlake Hall, Olin Hall and the Singles Complex.

On Monday, December 18, 2017, we will begin the building-by-building upgrade of network equipment in the Michel Student Center, Markin Recreation Center , & The Garrett Cultural Center. There will be multiple steps to the upgrade resulting in intermittent service interruptions, which will be communicated as effectively as possible.

The goal is to have this work completed prior to the start of the 2018 Second semester. Crews will be working in the scheduled halls between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you are in the scheduled halls, please use the wired connections as the wireless network will have outages throughout the upgrade.

An installation schedule will be provided with the anticipated dates IRT staff will be in each building posted here and on Twitter @bradleyhelpdesk as we progress through the project:
