Bradley University Programs Partner with U.S. Airforce, UDRI
Multiple cutting-edge Bradley University programs, including Game Design, User Experience Design (UX), Animation, and Computer Science, are partnering with University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) to create and provide virtual, augmented, and mixed reality tools for the U.S. Air Force.
This collaboration, funded by a three-year $12.5 million contract, will involve designing extended reality systems to support Air Force activities such as spraying, coating, and robotics control.
According to Scott Cavanah, M.F.A., the chair of Bradley’s Department of Interactive Media, these tools, collectively known as extended reality (XR), can simulate real-world scenarios, providing immersive experiences and reducing risk.
“This opportunity not only showcases the intersection of academia and real-world impact, but also underscores the crucial role that immersive technology plays in advancing training and methodologies,” said Cavanah, who serves as a principle investigator for this project. “It's an honor for Bradley University to work with UDRI to contribute to the enhancement of XR experiences that will assist and empower the U.S. Air Force.”
