Summer Research

Five students received funding to conduct research through the Undergraduate Summer Research and Artistry Fellowship Program offered through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Students will be mentored by a faculty member throughout the summer.

Summer 2018 winners are:

• Biology major Jaclyn Conway '19, of Springfield, Ill., mentored by Dr. Craig Cady. Her research project is titled "Development of a Novel Nerve Damage Treatment."

• Psychology major Caitlyn Jezowit '18, of Lake in the Hills, Ill., mentored by Dr. Derek Montgomery. Her research project is titled "Children Mistrusting Individuals: Reward Promise as a Possible Influential Factor."

• Biochemistry major Margaret Kimsey '19, of Topeka, Kansas, mentored by Dr. Ed Remsen. Her research project is titled “Fluorescence Emission Spectroscopy of Nile Red Labeled Proteins."

• Biomedical science major Nick Porter '19, of Paxton, Ill., mentored by Dr. Jennifer Jost. His research project is titled “Determining the role of antioxidants in thermal tolerance for the invasive zebra mussel."

• Psychology and biochemistry double major Elizabeth Wright '18, of Springfield, Ill., mentored by Dr. Tim Koeltzow. Her research project is titled "Establishing a Model of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Adolescent Rats.”
