Biography

Dr. Steven Eberth is Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Bradley University. He is a certified dementia practitioner and certified falls prevention specialist. His research goals are to change individual practice behavior, and as a result, improve organizational outcomes regarding safety and care. His current multi-year grant-funded project is the application of an evidence-based behavior change model to facilitate individual behavior change and improve organizational culture to prevent falls in skilled nursing.

Professional Experience

Dr. Eberth has 25 years of experience as an occupational therapist working primarily with adults and older adults in skilled nursing, home care, and outpatient settings. He was a rehab director in for-profit and non-profit skilled nursing facilities, and was an OTA program director.

Teaching

Dr. Eberth teaches graduate level courses within the occupational therapy department. He takes pride in mentoring student projects and experiential learning opportunities.

Scholarship

Dr. Eberth’s research interests include health literacy and falls prevention using a behavior change model. He has published manuscripts on quality assurance/process improvement, falls prevention, telehealth, and safe patient handling. He has presented at numerous clinical conferences on various topics related to the post-acute care setting including quality assurance and fall reduction. Dr. Eberth has co-authored textbook chapters related to leadership and management, and current trends in healthcare.

Service

Dr. Eberth serves on a national level with the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) as a member of the Productive Aging Special Interest Section Committee and is a co-facilitator for the Community of Practice on Health Literacy.
