12 Pieces Of Bradley Lingo You Should Know

Every campus has their "lingo" and Bradley is no exception! We've gone through all the Bradley abbreviations and picked out the ones you need to know most if you're #BradleyBound!

1. The GCC

Also known as the Global Communications Center, this is where the Slane College of Communication and Fine Arts is housed!

2. ACBU

ACBU, formally known as Activities Council Bradley University, is a student-run programming board that brings comedians, poets, artists, and movies to campus. The spring concert and homecoming are also organized by ACBU!

3. Markin

Our student recreation center, AKA "Markin" is home to our fitness center, rock climbing wall, an indoor pool, four full-size basketball courts, and an indoor track. Not looking to work out? No worries! Jerry’s Juice Bar, located in the lobby of Markin, offers smoothies, protein shakes, bagel sandwiches and an assortment of fresh snacks and salads. The Markin Center is also home to the offices of Campus Recreation and Athletic Facilities, Bradley Health Services, Counseling Services and the Wellness Office.

4. Ren-Co

The Renaissance Coliseum ("Ren-Co") is a multi-use athletic facility. It is the primary sporting venue for women’s basketball and volleyball, as well as other select events on the Hilltop like the spring concert!

5. U-Hall

University Hall is a five-story dorm that primarily first year students call home. You can also find Bradley's student-run recording studio, Hilltop Studios, in the basement of U-Hall!

6. The Lib

Who doesn't love Bradley's Library?! Whether you're looking for a place to study, or want to grab a quick coffee before you hit the books-- the lib is your spot!

7. LNBU/Late Night

Late Night BU is a campus wide late-night entertainment event that averages over 1,100 attendees per event! Late Night BU is an entire night of entertainment planned, promoted, and run by students. The monthly events include food from local restaurants, giveaways and a variety of activities like camel rides and inflatables!

8. SCC

The Smith Career Center assists students in exploring and defining career options by providing occupational reference materials, Career Advisors, seminars, and other student services. Career Advisors and Career Peer Advisors (CPA's) offer individual assistance, conduct internship/summer job seminars, and teach credit courses! This resource is available to graduates of the university as well!

9. SC

Whether you are on the go or looking to sit down and study, The Student Center is a great place on campus to visit all your favorite retail spots. Stop by Chick-fil-A, Moe's Southwest Grill, Marketplace Deli, Tossed, and the P.O.D. Market all in one visit! Also, don't forget to check out the theater in the lower level of the SC that shows the latest movies! Did we mention they're FREE for students?!

10. The P.O.D

The P.O.D.,short for Provisions on Demand, combines the idea of a convenience store with the style of a modern market. The P.O.D. features grab ‘n go dining options for any time of day including: freshly-prepared sandwiches, edible cookie dough, and Starbucks affiliated beverages. There is also a farmers market style area that provides seasonal produce to campus. Additionally, The P.O.D. offers a selection of school supplies, health and beauty items, and greeting cards.

11. The Hilltop

Since Bradley is built on the bluff of the Illinois River, we call Bradley's campus the Hilltop!

12. ASC

The Academic Success Center, "ASC", is located on the third floor of the Cullom-Davis Library. The ASC offers resources designed to support student learning and success, centralized and delivered in an environment that focuses on the needs of students. The ASC offers services like tutoring, the writing center, the math success center, academic workshops and academic coaching.
