Featured Works Dedicated to Strong Women

The Bradley University Women's Choir will present a concert of music for women’s voices on Friday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Ave. Admission is free for students and $5 for the general public. Tickets will be available at the door the evening of the performance

The first half of the program will feature works dedicated to strong women everywhere with Alice Parker’s “Old Grandma”, Andrea Ramsey’s “Lineage” and Kim Baryluk’s “Warrior”. Also included are several Spanish pieces for women’s voices. The second half of the program will include several scenes from Gilbert & Sullivan’s operetta Patience. Guest artists for these scenes include soprano Jordan Avellino and tenor Randall Sperry. Also featured will be Voce Femine, a small group made up of members from the large ensemble. Meng-Chun (Mickey) Chien is pianist for the choir.

Kerry Walters, director, is Associate Professor of Music at Bradley University. She also teaches voice, music education, and conducts the Bradley University Opera Workshop. Meng-Chun Chien serves as staff accompanist for the Department of Music.

The BU Women's Choir was established in 1990 to provide young women at Bradley with the opportunity to sing music, especially music written for treble voices, in an atmosphere of collegial and congenial music making. The group rehearses twice weekly and is made up of both music majors and those majoring in other fields of study.
