Student Laureate 2019 Announced

The top students representing Illinois’ colleges and universities were honored by The Lincoln Academy of Illinois during the annual Student Laureate Convocation at the Old State Capitol State Historic Site in Springfield.

The Lincoln Academy’s Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Awards are presented for excellence in both curricular and extracurricular activities to university seniors in Illinois. The 2019 recipient representing Bradley University is Rhome Apton.

Rhome Apton is a senior, civil engineering major from Libertyville, Illinois. He is very active within the Bradley campus community, including roles as a Bradley Fellow, Student Aide, Alternative Break Site Leader, Peer Educator, Big Brother Mentor and member of Lambda Chi Alpha.

He has applied what he has learned outside of the classroom with two internships at TranSystems Corporation in Schaumburg, Illinois where he served as a structural engineering intern and highway engineering intern.

Apton also served as chair of the American Institute of Steel Construction's Steel Bridge contest and the ASCE's Land Surveying Competition.
