Biography

Dr. Candace A. Esken joined the Foster College of Business in 2018 after completing her Ph.D. in management at Louisiana State University and working as an assistant professor of management at East Carolina University. Her research focuses primarily on job-related boredom, individual differences, motivation, and corporate culture. Dr. Esken’s research has appeared in several peer-reviewed journals and has been recognized at numerous regional and national conferences including the Academy of Management and the Southern Management Association She was the recipient of 2017 Douglas McGregor Memorial Award for Best Paper of the year in the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science.

Prior to earning her Ph.D., Dr. Esken earned both her Bachelor’s Degree and MBA from Bradley University. She also accumulated industry experience working in various roles in corporate finance and specialty insurance.

Teaching

Dr. Esken believes that one of the most prominent goals when teaching any management course is to inspire interest in the topic. She achieves this by using real-life examples, sharing personal stories, and driving home the importance of each lesson by connecting the material to students’ everyday lives and careers.
