7.02.01 Workstation Data Security
I. Purpose
This procedure documents specific ways to prevent access to protected data via computer display by unauthorized individuals.
Policy Supported
7.02 Workstation Data Security
II. Description
Individuals with access to confidential University data and/or protected information are required to position their computer display(s) in such a way as to ensure the display is not readable by non-authorized persons. If this is not possible, a privacy screen should be purchased for the display, which allows viewing only by an individual seated in front of the display.
In order to prevent unauthorized viewing of the display contents, a password-protected screen saver should be in place, the computer powered down, or the physical work area secured, when the responsible user leaves the work area.
III. Scope
This procedure applies to all University owned workstations and mobile computing devices.
