Interaction with faculty and experiential learning through Bradley’s Foster College of Business led Finance major Katie Nemeth ’16, of Naperville, Illinois, to a regulatory position with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, an independent bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Nemeth will begin her career as an assistant national bank examiner for the Treasury’s suburban Chicago office. In that role, she will work with Treasury and local bank officials to determine health and potential risky practices of financial institutions.

She credited faculty such as Executive in Residence Bill Funkhouser for shaping her career choice.

“His willingness to offer advice and his genuine interest in students really impacted me, and I appreciate his help as I’ve faced internship and career choices,” she said. “I’m grateful for all the advice and support I have received here at Bradley.”

“Katie showed a strong interest in a banking career and selected several banking related classes as part of her study in Finance,” Funkhouser said. “As a former banker, it was a joy to mentor her through the process.”

Additionally, Nemeth took advantage of student organizations and internships. She served on the Foster BEST visit day student team and turned a summer Caterpillar internship into a part-time job.

“Katie was recommended, by the Finance Department, to join our Foster BEST visit day team,” Foster College of Business Undergraduate Recruiting Coordinator, Amy Fairfield, said. “She greatly contributed to the team and represented the Finance Department extraordinarily well. Katie is an excellent example of how students achieve success in getting their dream job.”

Eventually Nemeth hopes to pass a competency exam to become a commissioned bank examiner, which will enable her to lead bank examination teams.
