Grade 1

For students entering 1st grade; Students may take one, two or three classes.

8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Arting Our Way Around the World

Class 1101 (Rachel Nichols)

Join us for a fun week as we discover art from around the world! We will explore traditional art techniques from Africa, South America, North America, Australia (and more). Each day we'll make cool multicultural creations, and connect the art and its process to the culture of the day. This class will be an opportunity to have fun with art and learn about more about the world around us.

10:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. If I Were an Inch Tall

Class 1102 (Kara Girsch)

What would the world be like if you were only an inch tall? We’ll take our inspiration from the poem by Shel Silverstein for our week of exploration in the world of all things small. Marcel the Shell with Shoes On will make an appearance to tell us how he adapts to a big world in a tiny body. Students will make houses for their one-inch selves and transform the classroom using our super math skills so that we will really know what it feels like to be one inch tall.

1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Elements are Elemental

Class 1103 (Christina Gardner)

Learn to think like a scientist. Throughout the week we will become scientists as we study the four basic elements: Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water. Just like scientists we will be conducting experiments, making observations, and drawing conclusions. We will discover how elements interact with each other, and even use the elements for art. Come and join our exploration of the elements. Let's Get Elemental!
