Professor Murphy's recent short fiction appears or is forthcoming in The Missouri Review, Glimmer Train, Michigan Quarterly Review, Shenandoah, Cimarron Review, The Pinch, Notre Dame Review, The Greensboro Review, Confrontation, New Ohio Review and The Southeast Review as well as over thirty other literary journals and anthologies.

Several of his writing awards include being a winner of The Atlantic's 2009 and 2010 Student Writing Contests and having his short story collection be a finalist for the Iowa Short Fiction Book Award.
