Student Support Services

Student Support Services is designed to offer guidance to students in times of need. Our mission is to provide personal attention and resources to students as they work to achieve their academic and personal goals. The Center serves as a major link between academic and Student Affairs striving to improve student retention through positive communication and relationships with students, faculty, staff and families. We will help students find the necessary information or resources so they may have a personally rewarding education at Bradley University.

Bereavement Issues or Emergencies

When a Bradley University student needs to miss classes due to an emergency or death in their family, the student needs to contact the Center for Student Support Services, [email protected] or call (309) 677-3910.

In the case when a student will miss class due to a bereavement issue, the student may need to provide appropriate documentation to the Center for Student Support Services regarding their absence.

In the case of an extended illness, hospitalization, or chronic illness which has affected the student’s class attendance, the student will need to contact Bradley Health Services directly. When appropriate, Bradley Health Services will notify Student Support Services regarding a student’s class absences. We will then notify professors of the time period the student will be absent and the reason for the absence.
Leave of Absence

If a student chooses to take a semester off from school, he/she may petition for a Leave of Absence.

Students in good standing, both academically and judicially, who wish to take a voluntary leave from Bradley University for a period of up to twelve consecutive months, may request a Leave of Absence (Step Out) by petitioning the Dean of the college of their major/program. This request must be approved before the beginning of the term in which the leave of absence begins. Students on or subsequently placed on academic probation are not eligible for a leave of absence. Students receiving financial aid should consult the Financial Assistance Office before applying for a leave of absence.

Withdrawing from Bradley University during a semester due to:

  • Medical (including mental health) reason
  • Taking a break/re-evaluating career decision
  • Transferring to another school

If a student needs to withdraw from all classes during a semester or does not plan to enroll for the next semester, they must meet with Student Support Services or with the appropriate designee. Student Support Services can assist students wishing to explore academic options other than a complete withdrawal. If a feasible solution cannot be found, the appropriate paperwork for withdrawal will be initiated through Student Support Services in 101-103 Sisson Hall. A checklist of withdrawal items will be discussed. These include housing, financial assistance, billing, academic recording, and book/iPad return.

A student may drop a class at any time online using myBradley prior to the last day to drop classes. Check the Academic Calendar for specific drop dates.

If an undergraduate student desires to drop all of their classes for the semester after the third week of the semester and before the 12th week of the semester, they must meet with Student Support Services to receive an honorable withdrawal. After the 12th week, the student must meet with Student Support Services and the Dean (or designee) or the student’s college must also review and approve the withdrawal request.

Graduate students should contact Student Support Services to request a withdrawal.

The withdrawal date (which is critical for the billing of the semester tuition) will be dated the day in which the student agrees and signs the withdrawal request form (except in the case of hospitalization).

When a student withdraws, they will no longer be able to participate in Bradley University activities or utilize Bradley University resources. Students living in residence halls must speak with housing to determine a move out plan.

For specific impact that dropping a class or withdrawing from the semester will have on financial assistance, the student must consult with the Financial Aid Office in Swords Hall.

Exit Interview when not returning to Bradley University for the next semester:

During the semester, if a student decides to leave Bradley University for any reason, they should contact Student Support Services. An exit interview will be conducted either in person or via email by calling (309) 677-3910. The exit interview will only take a couple of minutes.

NOTE: A withdrawal or exit interview does NOT hold a student’s place at the University, nor their financial aid. You must reapply for both, if appropriate, in order to return.

Other Student Support Resources

Moss Scholars provides a fee based educational program that combines appropriate supports to assist college ready neurodiverse students in gaining skills that will allow them to be independent and successful students. The Moss Scholars student will work with an executive function coach to focus on: time management, planning/prioritization, organization, task initiation, goal-directed persistence, flexibility, and self-advocacy skills. The program emphasizes academics, social skills, health/well-being and transition after college to help prepare students to be a confident, empowered, and contributing member to their communities.
