With knowledgeable professors dedicated to teaching and research, classes designed to prepare students for their chosen field, and outstanding research opportunities available to both undergraduate and graduate students, come and explore the Biology Department.

The Department is actively involved in maintaining a curriculum which reflects the current interdisciplinary nature of scientific investigation, and emphasizes active, investigative learning techniques within a broad curriculum. We have 10 faculty, a full-time laboratory coordinator, and a secretary.

Department Mission Statement

The Department aims to graduate students who are scientifically literate, broadly trained citizens with the desire and skills to become life-long learners. To this end, we strive to provide quality, state-of-the-art teaching and research experiences for students and faculty, and to attract and retain quality faculty and students.

We are committed to fulfilling this mission in three diverse arenas. First, to prepare undergraduate and graduate biology majors for such diverse fields as medicine, dentistry, medical technology, graduate study and secondary teaching as well as direct entry to the job market. Second, to provide a major service component for Nursing (undergraduate and graduate), Physical Therapy, Health Sciences, Dietetics, Psychology and Chemistry majors. Last but not least, to provide quality general education science courses.

Undergraduate Research

All Biology students are encouraged to participate in department research.
