Jazz Ensembles Auditions

Requirements

Auditions are ten minutes in length.

1. Prepared piece (download your part below)
2. Sight reading (furnished at the audition)
3. Improvisation on a Bb Blues (download the track below)
4. Drummers – replace improvisation with the following styles:
   1. Swing (medium and fast)
   2. Bossa Nova
   3. Jazz Waltz
   4. New Orleans Second Line

1. Saxophones can audition on Alto, Tenor, or Bari, though you may not necessarily be placed on that instrument.
2. Trumpet players can play either Trumpet 1 or Trumpet 2, but should play Trumpet 1 to be considered for lead.
3. Bass trombonists should play Trombone 4.
4. If there are chord changes on your part, please ignore them.
