$1.75 Million in Funding Approved for the Turner Center for Entrepreneurship at Bradley University

January 8, 2026
The Turner Center for Entrepreneurship at Bradley University has secured $1.75 million in state funding through a newly approved three-year grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).
This funding allows Bradley University to continue operations of the Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Illinois SBDC International Trade Center (ITS) through Dec 31, 2028, and builds on a strong track record of measurable impact across the region.
In 2025, the SBDC and ITC supported more than 500 entrepreneurs and businesses through over 10,000 hours of staff- and student-led advising. That work contributed to the creation of 43 new businesses, 66 new jobs, the retention of nearly 600 existing jobs, and more than $18 million in additional exports.
Looking ahead to 2026, the center will launch a Manufacturing Specialty Hub in response to the SBA’s increased emphasis on manufacturing. The hub will connect local manufacturers with regional resources, including reshoring strategies and partnerships with the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center.
“This support is a testament to the strong work of the Turner Center staff, and I extend my congratulations to the entire team,” remarked Bradley University President James Shadid. “I am also grateful to Bob and Carolyn Turner for their continued commitment to the Turner Center of Entrepreneurship. It is gratifying to start the new year with this important milestone.”
The Illinois Small Business Development Center and the Illinois SBDC International Trade Center have been in operation at Bradley University for over 30 years. The SBDC program in Illinois is a partnership between DCEO and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). DCEO is responsible for fostering economic growth by supporting businesses, developing the workforce, attracting investment, and managing programs for community, energy, tourism, and innovation to create jobs and opportunities across Illinois.
