Panned by crititcs for its silly premise, “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” also makes the mistake of rewriting some of the darkest days in American history, Dr. Jackie Hogan, associate professor and chair of the sociology department, wrote in an op-ed published by The Christian Science Monitor.
Although a work of fiction, the film, which casts Honest Abe as a slayer of vampires who side with the Confederacy, both trivializes and denies the origins of slavery. Dr. Hogan argues that instead of tackling serious subjects the film “wishes away responsibility for some of America’s most tragic and horrific chapters.” Read Dr. Hogan’s op-ed here.
