Music Scholarship Concert Series at Bradley presents An Afternoon of Jazz
The Bradley University Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band, under the direction of Dr. Todd Kelly, will present an Afternoon of Jazz on Sunday, October 14 at 3:00 pm in the Dingeldine Music Center, 1417 W. Barker Avenue. This is the second in an eight concert series that generates scholarship money for Bradley music students. Tickets are available at the door and are $5.00, with free admission for students. A series can be bought by calling 309-677-2650.
The 18 – member Jazz Ensemble will perform the music of Bob Curnow, Pat Metheny, Tom Kubis, and several others.
They have brought many world renowned jazz clinicians and soloists to the Bradley campus, including Mike Lee, The Mike Vax Big Band, Matt Wilson, Rachael Lee, Allen Vizzutti, Ron Jones, Tom Garling, Byron Stripling, Chris Vadala, the Jeff Hamilton Trio, Wayne Bergeron, Denis DiBlasio, Michael Davis, and Wycliffe Gordon. Each spring, the Bradley Jazz Festival is held on campus. They also perform a yearly tribute concert ” past tributes have included Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, Frank Sinatra, and “A Tribute to the Golden Age of Swing.” This year, they will present “A Tribute to Count Basie.”
The Jazz Lab Band, under the direction of Todd Kelly will open the concert with several selections, including “Hippo Trippo,” “Oye Como Va,” “Peter Gunn,” and “Happy Feet Blues.”
Dr. Todd Kelly, Associate Professor of Music, directs the Bradley Jazz Bands and Jazz Combo, teaches studio trumpet, and serves as the advisor for the Music Business program. He is in demand throughout the Midwest as a soloist and clinician.
