Bradley University’s Zeta Lambda Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), the national honorary organization for accounting majors, received its fifth gold chapter award at the 2014 BAP Annual Meeting last month in Atlanta, Georgia.
“We were one of only 15 chapters out of approximately 300 worldwide to receive this honor,” said accounting professor Dr. Simon Petravick. “It is the highest honor that a chapter can receive, and it is awarded to chapters that go well above and beyond BAP’s requirements.”
This is the fifth time in six years Bradley’s chapter has won the award. Two schools have won it six times, and Bradley is next in line as the only school with five wins.
“Some trip highlights for me from the annual meeting included the community service day with Atlanta Public Schools,” Amy Mentgen ’14, a 3:2 accounting major and BAP secretary, said. “It was a blast. We got to work with less-fortunate kids in the area and teach them the importance of reading while also playing games with them for the day.”
Beta Alpha Psi realizes that some chapters go above and beyond the requirements, and in order to recognize these chapters, it created the gold chapter awards, which are sponsored by the public accounting firm, KPMG.
To win the award, the chapter had to submit a five-minute video via YouTube.
Three judges reviewed the videos and determined who would be the gold chapter. In addition to the honor and recognition, each gold chapter receives a $2,500 award that is used to fund chapter operations and keep annual dues as low as possible for members.
“Bradley’s chapter of BAP has had an outstanding run,” Mentgen said. “We are truly dedicated to enhancing the professional lives of accounting students at Bradley.”
“BAP is an excellent way to further develop the technical and professional skills of our accounting students,” said Andrew Potter ’15, a 3:2 accounting major and BAP treasurer. “We also provide a platform for networking and volunteering in our community.”
Founded in 1919, Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals. There are over 300 chapters on college and university campuses with over 300,000 members initiated since BAP’s formation.
