Members of Beta Alpha Psi recently spent two days selling Foster College of Business t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts in the Baker Hall Atrium to benefit Washington’s ongoing tornado recovery.
“We not only wanted to help Washington community members and families, but we also wanted to support our college,” said accounting major Jennifer Aedis ’14. “It was a great fundraising and philanthropic combination.”
“A lot of students came out to purchase an item to help with the cause,” said accounting and marketing major Alyson Wengert ’15.
A little over $400 in was raised for Washington.
In addition to fundraising, Beta Alpha Psi also provided hands-on efforts with cleanup in Washington. On April 12, Beta Alpha Psi students helped city residents with yard work and other recovery tasks.
Simon Petravick, accounting department chair, listed various reasons why Beta Alpha Psi chose this philanthropic route.
“Our college has faculty, staff and students that were affected by the tornado,” he said. “Second, while more of the large debris from the tornado has been cleaned up, there is still a long road to recovery and much work to be done. It’s important to continue to support agencies that are still working to help people in need. The total cost of recovery will not be known for years.”
Beta Alpha Psi will have one more fundraiser towards the end of the semester that will involve asking students and faculty for any books they no longer need. They will then sell the books to used book buyers and combine the profits from the shirt sales into one donation.
Beta Alpha Psi is the national honorary organization for financial information professionals. At Bradley University, BAP membership is open to junior, senior, MSA and 3:2 accounting majors. For more information on BAP, click here.
