Bradley and Andy Warhol

Bradley Art Gallery displays Warhol screenprints

09/24/2014 1:15 PM

PEORIA — In 2008 the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts gave 28,543 Polaroid and black and white photographs to 183 universities and colleges across the country. Bradley University was the lucky recipient of 150 of these works. To celebrate this gift, a 2008 exhibition was held in which approximately 40 of these photographs were shown. This past year, Bradley University was once again selected by the foundation to receive additional works by the artist to add to its collection. These six screenprints, which are designated for research and educational purposes, arrived on campus in fall 2013.

The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts was established in 1987 after the artist’s death. Warhol died of a heart attack following gall bladder surgery at the age of 58. Since his death, the foundation has given away hundreds of millions in grants and art donations. The foundation is considered one of the most important grant giving organizations in visual arts. The works in this exhibition are an important part of the valuable teaching collection at Bradley University.
