Bradley APICS Finishes 5th at Case Competition

Four Bradley students competed in the 19th annual APICS Great Lakes District Student Case Competition where they placed 5th for the second year in a row. The team was sponsored jointly by the Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology and the APICS Lincoln Land Chapter. Each year, the case competition hosts 24 teams from universities in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan to compete in an overnight case analysis that tests students knowledge of operation management centering on the APICS body of knowledge.

Logan Broitman (LAS-Economics, Junior), Conner Garrison (Industrial Engineering, Junior), Sammy Naman (Industrial Engineering, Senior), and Stephen Koch (Industrial Engineering, Senior) combined their knowledge and experience to analyze the case and offer a solution in both a written format and a short oral presentation. This year’s case was a economic business decision of how to reinvest capital in production machinery. While the case was a hypothetical situation, it allowed the team to practice simulated real world business applications of how to approach strategic enterprise decisions.

This case competition allow students to collaborate and work together across colleges. It makes what is taught in the classroom and through APICS more relevant and enriches the learning process. Being put into a situation where there are strict time deadlines and limited resources simulates the real world scenarios that await students after graduation.
