Bradley Symphonic Winds Winter Concert
Sgt. John Hardisky, US Air Force Bank of Flight tubist, highlights February 19 concert

The Bradley University Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Dr. David Vroman, will present a Winter Concert on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 3:00 pm in Dingeldine Music Center on the Bradley campus. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and free to students. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 309-677-2650.
Featured on this concert will be the Principal tubist of the United States Air Force Band of Flight, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, Sergeant John Hardisky. He will be performing Dance Rhapsody for Tuba by Aldo Forte. Also on this concert will be a Puccini Overture, La Tragenda, October by Eric Whitacre, Them Basses by Huffine and even music from the film Pirates of the Caribbean.
Sergeant Hardisky was born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania and grew up in Luzerne, Pennsylvania where he began studying tuba in the fifth grade. After graduation from Wyoming Valley West High School in 1998, John completed a BM in Music Performance at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA in 2002. He also pursued graduate studies at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, and completed an MM in Music Performance at Wright State University, Dayton, OH in 2011. His teachers have included Abe Torchinsky, Jay Krush, Daniel Perantoni, Michael Thornton, Tony Kniffen, Benjamin Miles, and David Saltzman.
Sergeant Hardisky’s professional credits include substitute tubist with the Cincinnati Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony, Columbus Symphony (OH), Toledo Symphony, Kentucky Symphony, and Principal Tubist with the Layfayette (IN) Symphony. He was also an adjunct faculty member at Miami University of Ohio in 2006. He has been a featured soloist over 50 times with the Band of Flight in 6 states, as well as at The US Army Band Tuba and Euphonium conference in 2005, and the Northeast Regional Tuba and Euphonium Conference in 2007.
Sergeant Hardisky enlisted in the United States Air Force in October 2003. After Basic Military Training, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio TX, Sergeant Hardisky began his current assignment with the United States Air Force Band of Flight in December 2003. His military awards include The National Defense Service Medal, The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and The Air Force Commendation Medal. In addition to his performance duties, Sergeant Hardisky serves as a Public Affairs Assistant.
Sergeant Hardisky enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 kids, a regular practice of yoga, veganism, cooking, and practicing.
