The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences claimed six of nine awards presented at the University Conference in August 2013. The University Conference, a sort of “welcome back” for returning faculty and a “greetings” to new faculty, is the first time all faculty are together before the start of the new school year. At this conference, President Glasser shares the University-wide goals for the academic year and recognizes outstanding work performed and created by professors the previous year. This year, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences won the majority of the awards.
Dr. Claire Etaugh was newly appointed as a Caterpillar Professor of Psychology, while Dr. Dave Schmitt and Dr. Susan Brill de Ramirez earned a renewal of their appointments as Caterpillar Professors of psychology and English, respectively. Caterpillar Professorships “recognize and reward an exemplary level of scholarship and creative production among our senior faculty.” All Caterpillar Professors have their portraits added to the Gallery of Excellence in the atrium of Bradley’s Cullom-Davis Library.
The Mund-Lagowski Department of Chemistry won the William Rainey Harper Award for Department Excellence, after providing substantial evidence proving the department has been dedicated to and successful in the upkeep of its self-identified goals. The department has proven that its “performance has been truly excellent.”
Dr. Jihyun Kim, of the International Studies department, won Bradley’s First Year Faculty Teaching Award. After receiving a nomination from her department chair, Dr. Kim was selected from a pool of nominees by a committee comprised of administration. With this award, her dedication and exemplary work as a new professor has been recognized.
Dr. Craig Cady, of the biology department, was awarded the President’s Award by President Joanne Glasser herself, after being personally selected for the award for his work that made medical history. Dr. Cady’s research in stem cells and his part in Miss Hannah Warren’s surgery not only transformed Hannah’s life, but shined light on the life-changing work to which Bradley University professors are dedicated.
