DiVerde Receives Williams Scholarship

Actuarial science business major Alex DiVerde ’16 received the 2014 Cameron Williams Scholarship sponsored by The Motorists Insurance Group and distributed by The Griffith Insurance Educational Foundation.
As president of Gamma Iota Sigma, a member of the Bradley track and field team, and a member of the Dean’s council, DiVerde is a well-rounded and involved student. DiVerde and Dr. Vince Showers, professor of finance and quantitative methods, advocate that students need to be both strongly involved on campus and confident enough to apply to receive a scholarship.
“There are many scholarships available through both the University and outside sources, but too often qualified students don’t take the time to fill out the application or they lack confidence in thinking they have a chance to receive the award,” Showers said. “Even if the student doesn’t succeed the with the first application, additional attempts usually become much less time consuming and, of course, give the student an opportunity to improve on the comments and materials submitted with the applications.”
DiVerde is thankful for both the campus community and the education that Bradley University has provided him. This scholarship allows him to get the most of his education.
“The Foster College of Business does a fantastic job of providing students with coursework that is both highly applicable to their major courses of study and also rounds out their business education,” he said. “I believe one of the biggest perks of being in the college of business is the Business Core that all business majors are required to take. We have excellent faculty in every area of the business college and getting exposure to the knowledge that every department has to offer has helped me grow as a student.”
The applicants for this scholarship must be a full-time student, have above a 3.0 grade point average, be enrolled in an insurance-related field and plan to go into the insurance career field.
