Evening of Opera Scenes to be Presented April 4

The Bradley University Opera Workshop will present an evening of opera scenes on Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Avenue on the Bradley campus.

The first half of the program will include scenes from the American opera The Ballad of Baby Doe by Douglas Moore.  Based on the real-life story of Colorado silver miner Horace Tabor the opera explores the relationships between an older married man, his young and beautiful mistress, Baby Doe McCourt, and Tabor’s long-suffering wife Augusta.  The second half of the program provides lighter fair with scenes from Act I of Die Fledermaus, an operetta by Johann Strauss in which a practical joke serves as revenge for Dr. Fritz Falke, endearingly know to his friends as “The Bat.”

Bradley voice students Rachel Bisch, Melissa Blain, Katie Burnham, Andrew Corbin, Rebecca Crank, Joseph Crumine, Tracey Furling, Seth Johnson, and Hannah Williams will perform. Dr. Kerry Walters, associate professor of music, is the musical and stage director and pianists Molly Sloter and Kinza Hagerup will provide piano accompaniment.
