06/15/2011 7:25 PM

Bradley University and the Department of Music are hosting the 7th annual Central Illinois Summer Band Camp, June 13-17, 2011.   Dr. David Vroman, director of Band Activities and the Chairperson for the Department of Music, is the camp director.   The camp was begun with a grant from the Wurlitzer Foundation in Sycamore, IL.

Eighty-nine talented 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from Central Illinois area are participating in the weeklong commuter workshop.  Students attend sessions on listening skills; use of musical transcriptions; basic history/theory skills, as well as participate in performances in a concert band and sectional rehearsals.   The theme, “From Playing to Listening”, hopes to engage students and their families in the love of music for a lifetime.

Outstanding band directors, university faculty and private teachers from Central Illinois provide the instruction for the program.

The concluding concert is Friday, June 17th at 7:00 pm in Dingeldine Music Center on the campus of Bradley University.   This is a free concert that is open to the public.
