Nuclear proliferation addressed by students, community members

A group of Bradley students engaged Peoria community members in discussion about nuclear proliferation. The conversation followed a showing of “The Man Who Saved the World,” which showcased the dangers of nuclear deterrence by depicting one Cold War incident in which the U.S. and Soviet Union became close to accidental nuclear war.

Bradley’s International Affairs Organization sponsored the event.

“There definitely needs to be accountability as to who has nuclear weapons, otherwise you get into what’s called the nightmare scenario,” said IAO Vice-President Joshua Hatler ‘17. “That’s where non-state actors, like terrorist groups, could get their hands on nuclear weapons and they don’t have those regulations, like the International Atomic Energy Association or other organizations keeping an eye on how they’re using them. This presents a scary situation.”

International Affairs Organization is a student group that focuses on significant issues of global concern.
