IATE conference held at Bradley
Student researchers and a state senator present at teacher education conference.

The Illinois Association of Teacher Educators held its 41st Annual Fall Conference at Bradley University. The event included presentations of research by students and faculty from Bradley University and other Illinois colleges and State Senator Dave Koehler discussed the challenges and opportunities facing education in the state.
Students presented research on a variety of topics, including creating lesson plans, improving student literacy and using play-based learning in the classroom.
“The presentations allowed our undergraduate and graduate students to experience professional development in their chosen area of study. They did research and constructed a professional presentation for the session,” said Dr. Sherrie Pardieck, a Bradley professor and IATE president. “The presentations prepare them for their professional jobs as they continue to be life-long learners.”
Sen. Koehler presented a discussion on Senate Bill 7, an education reform bill currently making its way through the Illinois General Assembly. Sen. Koehler addressed a number of topics, including tenure, length of school days and evaluating teacher performance.
The IATE is the Illinois branch of the Association of Teacher Educators. It works to improve education in Illinois by focusing on creating better teachers. More information can be found at its website, www.iate1.org.
