Interning with NBC Olympics

Because of the help of interns from Bradley and other schools, what happened in Sochi didn’t stay in Sochi.  The 2014 Sochi Olympic coverage was monitored by Bradley interns at NBC’s offsite location in Stamford, Conn., where the students received real-life experience in sports production.

Dominique Moore worked at the NBC Sports studios in Stamford as a NBC intern logger.   She watched hours of Olympic coverage, putting words to video and flagging moments that had a shot of being broadcasted. Those logs will be stored and used for flashback material in future Olympic coverage.

“It was really cool being able to see it live,” Moore said. “It’s changed my perspective on the Olympics. I’m never going to be able to watch the Olympics without thinking about those 100 people sitting in Connecticut watching those games”

Traditionally, NBC draws the majority of its Olympic interns from three colleges: Syracuse, Ithaca and Bradley. Moore was one of 18 Bradley students selected by NBC for the 2014 Sochi Olympics internship.

“It’s been great for students to be associated with the most technologically sophisticated distribution of technology,” said Dr. Paul Gullifor, communication department chair. “This is not just national distinction,” Dr. Gullifor said. “It’s international distinction.”

Moore, who started announcing little league when she was 12, currently works in the marketing department for Bradley Athletics as well as Braves Vision, a student-run production crew that runs camera, graphics and instant replay for Bradley’s athletic events.

In the future, Moore would like to get involved with the Olympic planning committee, or working with development and donors in the college athletics.
