Caterpillar Professor of Music is editor for “Notes for Performers” series

09/21/2012 12:29 PM

Kyle Dzapo, Caterpillar Professor of Music, has been named Editor of the Oxford University Press series Notes for Performers.

She will work with the world’s largest university press to select authors and will oversee all aspects of the series. Dr. Dzapo’s book, Notes for Flutists: A Guide to Selected Works (forthcoming in 2015), will serve as the flagship volume in this series and will offer in a single resource in-depth historical and analytical information about forty major pieces written for the instrument. Additional books are planned for each orchestral instrument. The series will serve as a comprehensive resource for teachers as well as professional, student, and amateur musicians to glean insights into the best known pieces in the repertoire for that instrument.

As professor of flute and music history at Bradley University, Dr. Dzapo works with students in the classroom and in the studio toward an understanding of how scholarship informs performance. Her work as pre-concert lecturer for the Chicago Symphony, a position she has held since 1996, draws on the same concept. Now Oxford University Press has selected her to apply this model to its new series of scholarly books.
