Howard L. Lance, industrial engineering graduate from Bradley University (1977), is an
Executive Advisor at The Blackstone Group. He works with select portfolio companies to
enhance their performance through a focus on business strategy, operational excellence,
organizational development and M&A.
Mr. Lance is the retired chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Harris
Corporation (NYSE:HRS) from January 2003-2011. Before joining Harris, Mr. Lance was
president of NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR) and chief operating officer of its Retail and
Financial Group. Previously, he spent 17 years with Emerson Electric Company (NYSE:EMR)
including as executive vice president of its Electronics and Telecommunications Group, chief
executive officer and director of its Astec Plc electronics subsidiary based in Hong Kong, group
vice president of its Climate Technologies group and president of its Copeland Refrigeration
division.
In 2006, Mr. Lance was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the National
Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. He was named Entrepreneur of the Year for
the Florida region by Ernst & Young in 2008.
Mr. Lance presented his insights on “Lessons Learned During A Career of Leadership” to a class in Industrial Engineering and a special presentation to packed audience of Business, Engineering, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Honors students.
