Lilly – Internship Opportunities

Hey all, I hope you had a great week and an even better Thanksgiving break! Since it’s the season to be thankful and appreciative, I’d like to share my experience of getting internships and full-time job offers at Bradley. I’m thankful for all the resources we have access to on this campus. Some quick background on the great resources that Bradley has here to help students get a job are the Fall and Spring Semester job fair, Smith Career Center, senior project, employers visiting campus throughout the week and giving presentations, workshops on interviewing, negotiating contracts, resume building, and so many more things. I’ve used most of these if not all resources that our Smith Career Center offers just because it makes my life so much easier and everyone that works there genuinely wants to help me find a job or internship.
I got my first internship the summer after my sophomore year. I went to our Fall job fair in the Renaissance Coliseum with about ten resumes in my hand having no expectations of getting an internship. I walked around the booths talking to employers about the classes I’ve taken and projects I’ve worked on so far. Employers were actually interested in talking with me and were setting up interviews in our Markin Rec Center after which I was super surprised. It was really great to know that even as a sophomore employers wanted me to work for them because Bradley has prepared me enough to start talking and acting professionally. I ended up getting a paid internship with a construction company that was close to my home. I spent about 40 hours a week learning so much in the office and out in the field.
The second time I went to the job fair was the Fall semester of my junior year. Once again I was looking for a summer internship. This time when I went I was much more confident since I had utilized all the resources that our Smith Career Center had before the job fair. I did the same thing as the first time, walked around talking to employers and handed out as many resumes as I could. Once again Bradley prepared me enough to get my second summer internship. I interviewed with several companies and choose the one that I thought would be the most rewarding. I spent the summer after my junior year in downtown Chicago working on a 14 story multi-purpose building. It was the greatest feeling ever to be able to put the knowledge I’ve learned in class and apply it to the real world on a real building that I was helping manage. What’s even better than being exposed to so many great things that summer is that they had extended a job offer at the end. This meant that I had a full-time job waiting for me before I was even starting my senior year of college. It was the greatest feeling not having the pressure of finding a job after graduation and I can thank Bradley and all of its resources for it.
I hope that my story on internships and our job fair has been some help to you. If you have any questions on some services we offer on finding jobs or anything about internships in construction or engineering feel free to DM me or comment on this post, I’d be more than happy to help all of you guys!
