IM to co-sponsor “Mobile Learning” symposium June 10
Bradley University’s Department of Interactive Media will co-sponsor a symposium on “mobile learning” Friday, June 10, at the Caterpillar Global Communications Center.
The department is teaming up with Float Mobile Learning of Morton, which strives to help companies and individuals understand how effective mobile learning can be. Float believes needed information should be accessible anywhere and anytime. The company’s definition of mobile learning is simple: “mLearning is the use of mobile technology to aid in the learning of, reference of or exploration of information useful to the user at that moment or in a specific use context.”
“This event marks the first time that a mobile-focused event has happened on Bradley’s campus,” said Chad Udell, managing director of Float Mobile Learning.
Anyone interested in mobile learning technology is encouraged to attend the event. It will be geared toward marketing, learning, and information technology professionals and focus on mobile design, development and strategy. The symposium will host a variety of speakers including Jim Ferolo, chair of the Department of Interactive Media at Bradley, and professionals representing TMobile, O’Reilly Press, Magic+Might, and i5 Research. Udell will also speak at the event.
“The caliber of speakers and expertise we have assembled is more akin to a conference line-up you would see on the coasts, not in Central Illinois. We’re bringing great talent to the department with this day and giving faculty and students an opportunity to see industry leaders and respected authors who will provide valuable thought leadership right here on campus for a meager price,” Udell said.
Jim Ferolo sees opportunity in the rapidly advancing field of mobile technology. IM students and faculty at Bradley have been working on a variety of mobile games and applications.
“We recognize that this is the fastest growing platform out there right now. We believe that our students can become thought leaders by following the mobile trend,” Ferolo said.
“This symposium allows for students and business people to come together. We are hoping that this can be the first in a series of symposiums,” Ferolo said.
Two different sessions have been planned for the symposium. Those who attend will have the option of choosing between “Business and Strategy” and “Design and Development.” A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Students who attend can earn course credit. The registration fee is $179.
