Moms Weekend With The Fraternity – Jason

Moms Weekend With The Fraternity – Jason

03/09/2020 1:03 AM

My fraternity hosts an annual Mom’s weekend and it is one of my favorite weekends of the year. On Friday, there is always a welcoming event that allows all of the moms to meet each other. My mom and my roommate’s mom met during the first welcome event 3 years ago. They have become close friends. My mom stays in the Mark Twain hotel 5 minutes away from Bradley in downtown Peoria. I always go to eat the amazing breakfast that is there with my mom. This year during the middle of the day, all the fraternity went to Landmark Theaters to watch the Adam’s family together with the moms. The best part is that we rent out the space so it is just our families watching the movie. Ryan and I took our mom’s to Alexander’s steakhouse for lunch near the river. Afterward, we went shopping for slippers at Target and groceries for the week. This was all preparation for the main event, dance lessons with Moms. That night the fraternity got swing dancing lessons. One of the greatest things I have done with my mom, it was a blast and I have some great new dance moves. The instructors broke down step-by-step five moves to use and this all took place in a church so the set-up was perfect. The mom’s had a great time and the men of the fraternity learned a lot too. After, retreating back to the Mark Twain Hotel and another amazing breakfast in the morning with a couple of other mothers and their sons, we had our last educational event. The value we were discussing at the event was personal courage. It was inspiring seeing all the mothers get to see and hear how their sons are becoming their own man. Every year, my mom leaves with a better understanding of who I am and more memories to add to our arsenal. I look forward to all the future opportunities to swing dance with her.
