Multicultural Sorority Recolonizes

Sigma Lambda Gamma is recolonizing at Bradley. The multicultural sorority received it’s original charter at Bradley in 1997 but due to lack of membership, the charter closed in 2007. Now, 9 new members are revitalizing the chapter on the hilltop. 

President Jhoanna Vega Rocha says it was a long road to reestablishing the chapter but it was worth it.  “We wanted to establish an organization that provides awareness of cultural differences through community service and social programming. Although we are Latin-based, we are open to any women. We have been welcomed with open arms by our peers, faculty, and staff. We could not be more excited to continue growing as an organization and achieving our goal of reestablishing our chapter, Epsilon Alpha.” 

Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. started in Iowa in 1990 as a primarily Latina sorority, but they had the vision to extend the membership to include women of all multicultural ethnicities. It is a social sorority with five  main principles: Academics, Community Service, Cultural Awareness, Morals and Ethics, and Social Interaction. 

The 9 new colony members at Bradley, who were sworn in earlier this month, are Daniela Miranda, Gabriela Rivera, Krystal Gonzalez, Olivia De La Rosa, Joselin Saldana, Jennifer Amaro, Arely Herrera, Guadalupe Flores, and Jhoanna Vega-Rocha (active president). Photo attached.
