WGS minors Brooke Rudolph ’17 (psychology major) and Olga Krapivner ’17 (political science) presented research posters in the multidisciplinary category of the Student Scholarship Expo on April 12. Their poster presentations encapsulated their findings from the WGS capstone course.
Rudolph’s presentation “Am I Enough?” was an interdisciplinary analysis of the impact that self-objectifying media representations can have on girls’ psychological health, including the development of eating disorders. Brooke’s faculty mentors for her capstone project were Dr. Amy Scott (history/women’s and gender studies) and Dr. Claire Etaugh (psychology/women’s and gender studies).
Krapivner presented her capstone paper, “Republican Feminism in Modernity.” Situated at the intersections of political science, psychology, media analysis and gender theory, her research examined the ways in which gendered stereotypes about political affiliation can manifest as a Stigmatized Concealable Identity. Olga’s faculty mentors for her senior research project were Dr. Scott and Dr. Jennifer Robin (management).
