Saxophone Quartet and Quintet to appear in free recital

The Bradley University Saxophone Quartet and Quintet will appear in a free recital on Sunday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dingledine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Avenue on the Bradley campus. 

The quartet portion of the program will consist of Edvard Moritz’s Quartet; a transcription of Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings; Lawson Lunde’s Suite; the second movement of Alfred Descenclos’ Quatour; and a transcription of George Gershwin’s Rialto Ripples.

Members of the quartet and quintet, directed by Keith Zimmerman, are Matt Zahner, Peoria freshman major alto; Becky Bucklin, Peoria senior minor as second alto for quintets; Damairus Reddick, Peoria junior minor as tenor; Curtis Nelson, Annawan engineering junior major as baritone; and Zimmerman, soprano. 

The quintet portion of the program consists of transcriptions of works for quintets of strings, organ or voices with small chamber orchestra. The program consists of J. S. Bach’s Prelude and Fugue No. 22 for organ and a duet for 2 soprano saxes from Cantata No. 33; The Menuetto from Beethoven’s opus 4 

quintet; the Intermezzo from Johannes Brahms’ Quintet, op. 111; the Allegro fourth movement of W. A. Mozart’s Quintet, K. 593; and will conclude with Rudy Wieodeft’s Saxema, an original  saxophone and piano work transcribed by former Illinois Saxophone Quintet baritone saxophone member John Redshaw former of East Peoria, now residing in Hovland, Minnesota.
