Senior Year Recap – Lilly

Senior Year Recap – Lilly

03/09/2020 1:13 AM

Hey guys, I hope you’re having a great first semester to your senior year!!! I know I’m having a great time up here on the hilltop! It’s been really cool seeing everyone interact with each other and I’ve loved even being able to meet some of you our visit days! So for this week’s post I wanted to go over my past semester as a senior here at Bradley and share that with y’all.

This semester has been really great for me. To start out my senior year, in August, I moved into my off-campus house with 6 of my best friends. You might think 7 college girls living under one roof would be crazy, you’re right! I love living with all of them because we’re always on the move doing something fun like playing pranks on each other or just hanging out and watching a movie together. All of us get along great and there’s never a dull moment; I met them all freshman year and we’ve been wanting to all live together since then.

Class this semester has also been going pretty well for me. Being a senior now I’m in all construction management electives and my senior project. A senior project is a project that combines everything I’ve learned over my four years here and compiles it all into one project. There are six groups of five and we are all battling against each other to receive the best grade and turn in the best bid proposal. We go through a real construction project that a local Peoria general contractor is building in the area and create a request for proposal. We go through and price the project’s materials, labor and equipment, Create a company statement which included our ethics, mission and vision statements, a green sustainability program. Next semester we will present our project in front of the general contractor that is actually building the project, faculty and staff, and other professionals in the industry. It’s a great real-world application and will prepare us for when we graduate which I really appreciate!

This semester I also accepted a job to work for a company in Chicago after graduation which is super exciting!!!!! I spent a good chunk of my semester interviewing different companies in Chicago trying to find the right place for me. I’ll be working with Executive Construction doing interior buildouts for companies. An interior buildout is changing an existing commercial shell into a personalized, usable space for your business’ specific needs. I’m hoping to take a month or two after graduation to kick back and take some road trips or something fun like that before I start working full time in August.
