The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) recently recognized six Bradley professional development schools for significant school wide improvements in student behavior during the 2013-2014 academic year.

All six Bradley PDS sites use the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) model for school wide instructional and behavioral support. PBIS primary prevention measures (Tier 1) include clearly communicated expectations for all students, staff, and settings. Secondary prevention measures (Tier 2) include specialized interventions for at-risk students and groups of students who need more customized support. Tertiary prevention measures (Tier 3), designed for high risk students, include individualized interventions targeting specific instructional and behavioral goals. All three levels are designed to support students toward academic and behavioral success.

Glen Oak Community Learning Center and Whittier Primary School were recognized as Gold Status PBIS Schools. These Bradley PDS sites achieved 80% or higher on at least two PBIS tiers, as measured by the SW-PBIS Tiered Fidelity Inventory.

Harrison Community Learning Center was recognized as a Silver Status PBIS School. This Bradley PDS site achieved 80% fidelity on one PBIS tier.

Roosevelt Magnet School, Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Center, and Trewyn K-8 School were recognized as Bronze Status PBIS Schools. These Bradley PDS sites were successful in their efforts to assess students’ instructional and academic needs and develop school wide action plans around implementation of the PBIS model.

Dr. Jana Hunzicker, who coordinates the Bradley PDS Partnership, stated, “We are so pleased to see the successes happening at so many of our Bradley PDS sites. We are committed to continue supporting these efforts through clinical experiences, classroom partnerships, professional development, and special PDS projects.”
