A junior at Bradley, Gabby Taxer, opted to share some of her childhood treasures with her newfound community in Peoria, IL. Discovering over 200 Beanie Babies in storage, Taxer came up with the idea of donating the toys to kids who’d really enjoy them. Taxer decided to reach out to the Children’s Hospital of Illinois to accomplish this mission. To Taxer’s delight, her charitable idea was approved by the hospital.
Next, she took her plan to her sorority sisters in Pi Beta Phi at Bradley. Taxer said,”I mentioned [the idea] to my sorority chapter and had an overwhelming response
Taxer and her team of sisters were able to hand-deliver the Beanie Babies and meet with over 50 patients on pediatric floors during their two visits.
“Honestly, the whole reason I did this was to give back to the Peoria community,” said Taxer. “Giving back and helping those who need it gives more satisfaction than anything I could receive.”
Taxer said the outcome of the day far surpassed her expectations, and she left feeling inspired by all of the kids and their stories.
