The Bradley University Speech Team will host the 2014 George Armstrong Heart of Illinois High School Invitational December 5-6.   Twenty-three high schools with approximately 350 high school students, coaches, and judges will be attending from 8 different states including: California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Ohio.

Additionally, 14 students from 6 states will be competing in the Jay Janssen Oratorical Contest.  Through the generosity of alumni Jay Janssen ’59 and Bradley University, these students will be competing for Bradley scholarships.  Awards are given to the top three contestants: 1st place $15,000, 2nd place $13,000, and 3rd place $12,000.

Speech Team Director of Forensics Ken Young said the tournament blends the Illinois high school forensics community with a college forensics environment.

“The unique combination of those two makes the Armstrong tournament different from any other high school tournament in the nation,” Young said.
