Finance majors Joseph Weis and Tyler Beason, recently attended the RISE (Redefining Investment Strategy Education) Conference. The RISE Conference is the largest student financial conferences in the world with more than 150 universities and academic institutions attending.

“This conference is attended by a lot of successful finance professionals and students from around the world,” said finance department chair Dr. Amit Sinha. “Our students get to meet them, network and learn about different career tracks within finance.”

The finance professionals are able to help the students figure out future career paths and give advice about financial strategies.

“There were panels covering the economy, domestic markets, and international markets. Each panel included people who are typically followed in financial news, people who were chief executives at investment firms, and managing billions of dollars. The second and third days of the conference consisted of very valuable workshops where we had the opportunity to learn how things are actually done in the real world,” said Beason.

Along with the educational and hands-on learning experiences, the RISE conference offered entertaining highlights such as meeting other students from different universities and around the world, discussing possible internship opportunities, listening to lectures and networking time.

Dr. Sinha and Beason are working create a fund for finance students to attend the RISE conference every year. Interested students for next year will have to write essays about why they should be able to attend the conference in order to receive financial aid.
