This Week at Bradley

Here are a few events happening this week at Bradley. Some are open to the public, but all are open to media coverage.

Author, Legal Scholar Michelle Alexander To Speak At Bradley
Michelle Alexander, highly acclaimed civil rights lawyer, legal scholar, and author of the best-seller “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness,” will speak at Bradley University on Thursday, February 12.  Alexander’s lecture on “Colorblind Racism in the American Judicial System” will begin at 7 p.m. in the Michel Student Center ballroom. It is free and open to the public.
Tartan Design competition

The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences is sponsoring a Bradley Tartan Competition in an effort to design an innovative and symbolic tartan plaid using the University’s colors. Entrants must use design software provided by partner Collegiate Tartan Apparel. Software tutorial sessions will take place on Thursday, February 12 at 4 and 7 p.m. in Westlake Hall 15.  The winning design will be sent to the Scottish Register of Tartans in Edinburgh, Scotland to be authenticated. Memory City 
The Bunn Lectureship in Photography featuring Rebecca Norris Webb and Alex Webb will be held Thursday, February 12th at 5pm in Horowitz Auditorium, Caterpillar Global Communications Center.  Each accomplished in their own right, the artistic duo collaborated on Memory City, a series of photographs and book by the same name documenting the film giant Kodak’s hometown of Rochester, NY over the course of the company’s filing of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. 

Starting a Business in Illinois Workshop
A free informal monthly workshop offered by the Illinois Small Business Development Center at Bradley University.  Topics covered will include everything you need to know to navigate starting your own business.  It will take place Thursday, February 12th from 3-5:30 at the Peoria  NEXT Innovation Center.  This is intended only for those who are NOT yet in business.  Find out more by clicking here.   


Music Scholarship Concert Series — IL Saxophone Quintet
 

Illinois Saxophone Quintet, after 43 years still the only professional group of its kind in the world, will return to Bradley University’s Dingeldine Music Center on Sunday, February 15, for a Music Scholarship Series concert at 3:00 P.M.   
Black History Month calendar

Birthday party
A birthday party for Kaboom! will take place on Sunday before the men’s basketball game at the Peoria Civic Center. The party will start at 11 a.m. in the Great Hall with a bounce house, balloon artist from Unique Twist, face painting, and a coloring station hosted by Team Bradley. The party activities will continue through halftime.
