Tunnel of Oppression Runs Through Thursday

Come face to face with the concepts of oppression, privilege, and power.

11/11/2014 9:16 AM

Bradley University offers a creative, interactive and realistic way to open the public’s eyes to what it’s like to live in oppression. The event, called Tunnel of Oppression, started in 2005 and takes place every two years. Participants are guided through a series of scenes and come face to face with the concepts of oppression, privilege, and power. Each scene aims to educate and challenge participants to think more deeply about issues of oppression throughout society.

The tunnel is designed to challenge participants’ thoughts and perceptions about oppression and hatred through an interactive experience as opposed to rhetoric. Participants will be guided through an experience that combines acting, passive information, and media that are all designed to show the reality of oppression.

The Office of Multicultural Student Services will team with student organizations and campus departments to sponsor the Tunnel of Oppression on November 10 through 13. Guided tours will take place from every 20 minutes. For more information about the Tunnel of Oppression and how to sign up for a tour, see http://bradley.edu/campuslife/multicultural/programs/oppression/.
