University of Virginia Professor to Deliver Armstrong Lecture

Dr. John Stagg, Professor of History at the University of Virginia, will deliver the Armstrong Lecture entitled, Uncle Sam and Brother Jonathan:  Or Who Fought in the War of 1812.  The lecture will take place on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 7pm in the Marty Theatre.  Dr. Stagg is widely known as an expert on the early American republic, whose recent research involves preparing volumes of the Papers of James Madison for publication, particularly those relating to Madison’s second administration.  Dr. Stagg’s more broadly defined research interests include the political, diplomatic and military history of the early American republic, with special emphases on the social history of the U.S. Army, 1802-1815, and the Spanish borderlands.
