Winter Break (Holidays With The Family) – Melissa

Winter Break (Holidays With The Family) – Melissa

My second to last semester here at Bradley is finally winding down and it is time for winter break! I am super excited for my break because I have a lot of fun plans to catch up with friends and celebrate the holidays. I always look forward to catching up with my friends from high school when we’re all home from college. A lot of people worry that when everyone leaves for college and goes their separate ways it will be hard to keep in touch. While this definitely can be tough, I wouldn’t say it’s totally true. What’s really cool about going away to school is that everyone gets to create a totally new life for themselves by trying new things, meeting new people, and adapting to a different environment. It’s really exciting to come back home and connect with old friends to hear all about their new experiences and tell them all about yours. You may not get the chance to talk to your friends every single day like you would in high school, but that makes it so much more exciting when you do get the opportunity to get together and catch up! I can’t wait to see all my friends over the next few weeks.

I’m also really looking forward to getting together with my family for the holidays. My family has a lot of fun traditions for the holidays! One of my favorites is having a big brunch on Christmas morning, then in the evening we go out to dinner and a movie! On New Year’s Eve, my family hosts a big party with all of our neighborhood friends and family friends. This year we’re doing a “Chicago” theme and catering in food from our Chicago favorites like Portillo’s and Lou Malnati’s. My mom loves hosting parties at our house, so she always goes all out and it’s always a really fun time.

More than anything, I’m excited to just have the chance to rest and relax before I head into my last semester at Bradley. My schedule is super busy between competing on the speech team, finishing up my two majors, and working two jobs, so it’s really nice to just chill and do nothing for a few weeks before jumping back into it to finish out my last semester at Bradley on a high note!
