Biography
Dr. Olson received their PhD in Experimental Psychology from FAU, under the advisement of Dr. Andrzej Nowak. Their dissertation addressed a dynamical computational model of the self-reflection processes of integration and expression of self-knowledge. During their graduate program, they taught and assisted with a variety of lab and social area courses, compounding their interest in statistics, coding, and dynamical social psychological research. Dr. Olson is an avid coffee drinker, and can often be found at local Peoria shops. He staunchly recommends CxT’s iced oat maple latte.
Teaching
Dr. Olson has experience with applied courses in research methods, statistics, cognition, and social behavior, and teaches Research Methods, Social Psychology, Principles of Psychology, and Positive Psychology at Bradley University.
Scholarship
Dr. Olson’s research focuses on dynamical social theory, observing changes in behavior, attitudes, and self-conceptions over time and/or with treatment in repeated measures. His methods span from computational (using Processing to mathematically model the minutiae of human behavior at different levels of conception) to human subjects research (experiments manipulating the presentation of information to identify preferences, interventions, and influences). Their currently developing line of research focuses on academic identity and learned helplessness as connected to action identification theory.
Student Involvement Opportunities
Dr. Olson will be conducting research and mentorship in social psychology in Spring, with university and regional poster opportunities available for students interested in research.
