The Central Illinois Regional FIRST Robotics Competition is a thrilling three-day event where high school teams showcase their innovative robots, built through teamwork and mentorship. Over the course of 6-1/2 weeks, students and mentors work together to solve complex engineering challenges, culminating in an action-packed competition. Experience the excitement, creativity, and dedication of the next generation of engineers as they battle it out on the field!
Being on a FIRST Robotics team offers a wide range of valuable skills, including:
Teamwork and Collaboration – Students learn to work effectively with others, communicating ideas, compromising, and collaborating towards a common goal.
Problem – Solving and Critical Thinking: Through designing and programming robots, team members tackle complex challenges and find creative solutions in real time.
Leadership and Project Management – Students gain leadership skills by taking on roles such as team captain or project manager, learning how to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines.
Technical Skills – Participants develop hands-on experience with robotics, programming, CAD (computer-aided design), electrical systems, and mechanical design.
Time Management – Balancing school, team meetings, and the build season teaches students how to manage their time effectively.
Public Speaking and Communication – Teams often present their work to judges and at events, building skills in public speaking, presentation, and conveying technical concepts clearly.
